The Sturgeon: about 3m long...

...weighing approximately 120kg...

...and possibly up to 200 years old!

The arrival of Stanley.

Media coverage from the BBC tv and the Cornish Times

Stanley's departure for the Natural History Museum.

From the evening of Thursday, 3rd June 2004 until about midday Tuesday 8th June 2004, we were privileged to look after a rare sturgeon measuring approximately 3 metres (10 feet) in length, and weighing about 120kg (265lb), which had been brought to Plymouth fish auction.  The sturgeon, nick-named "Stanley", was the subject of police investigation, (as it is an endangered species) and as a result enjoyed, what seemed for a time, almost incessant media coverage and speculation as to his whereabouts!  On Tuesday, Tim delivered Stanley into the care of the curator of fish, Mr Oliver Crimmin, at the Natural History Museum in London, where he will be cryogenically frozen, for future generations to wonder at as we have.
