Environmental Issues

The newspapers and television have highlighted a number of environmental issues that directly concern our company, and it would be foolish to pretend that they do not exist.  However, we nurture the hope that there will still be a viable fishing industry in twenty years time so that our sons could continue to supply your children with fresh fish and shellfish!!  With this in mind, we do our utmost to be aware of and abide by sensible and environmentally friendly practices.  We do not buy any fish caught by the large industrial pair-trawlers, which Greenpeace has shown cause fatalities amongst dolphins.  We support the policy that encourages fishermen to use nets with larger mesh, so that juvenile fish can escape and grow to maturity and spawning age.  We also believe that trawling should be prohibited in nursery grounds and support the campaign working towards this aim.  Fish preparation, as you may imagine, produces a quantity of waste and although some of our customers request the resultant fish frames for making stock, it does leave us with a substantial amount of waste to dispose of.  This is sent to Holsworthy BioGas, a company in neighbouring Devon, which produces energy from natural waste products.
